Budgets

The fiscal year of the DSC runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following year. In the spring of each year, the Co-Chair for Business prepares a budget for the following fiscal year in consultation with the relevant committees and for consideration by the Steering Committee and, if recommended, by entire DSC. After being approved by the DSC, the budget is reviewed by the College Association.

Budget Analysis Tools

The following graph reflects all budgeted line items since 1991. Data on actual expenditures in some categories is available back to 1975; more is being added. Revenues have been omitted since they were not included in budgets until 1996 and consist primarily of student activity fees, with sales, gifts/contributions, and other operating income totaling less than 5% of all operating revenue.

Budget amounts reflect line item data from the files above, reclassified to assist in navigation. In rare instances, amounts were obtained from other sources or from future year budgets when past years were unavailable.

For ease of viewing, select the bar chart display from the upper right and order the x-axis alphabetically. The y-axis may be used to switch between budgeted and actual values. You may view individual years and animate them over time using the scroll bar at the bottom.

Restrictions on the Use of Student Activity Fees

The Bylaws of the Board of Trustees ยง16.2 restricts the use of student activity funds to:

  • Extracurricular educational programs
  • Cultural and social activities
  • Recreational and athletic programs
  • Student government
  • Publications and other media
  • Assistance to registered student organizations
  • Community service programs
  • Enhancement of the college and university environment
  • Transportation, administration and insurance related to the implementation of these activities
  • Student services to supplement or add to those provided by the university
  • Stipends to student leaders

No DSC program or affiliate may use DSC funding for purposes other than these.
